Redmen.com had the opportunity to speak to Lou Dawkins, the coach of the newest member of the Redmen family, Larry Wright. Coach Dawkins shared his thoughts about Larry and
what he'll bring to SJU, including the following:
ON WHO ELSE RECRUITED LARRY
Western Michigan, St. Bonaventure, SDSU, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Iowa, Seton Hall and BC.
ON LARRY AS A PLAYER
Shooter, scoring guard, can shoot out to NBA three-point range, great at coming around screens and separating from his defenders. Averaging 22 pts., 7-8 rebs, 4 assists, shooting 92% from FT line and 51% from three. Mr. Basketball finalist in Michigan and should be 1st team All-State and Saginaw Dream Team.
ON LARRY AS A PERSON
Great kid, very polite. One of the greatest kids he has ever met and a joy to have in his life.
ON LARRY AS A FRESHMAN AT SJU
Exactly what SJU needs, is going to come in and play 2G as a freshman and then evolve into more of a combo guard.
ON THE SJU COACHING STAFF
Had been up to see Larry 3 or 4 times. Coach Dawkins, who played at Tulsa, knows Coach Roberts for a while. It's a blessing that the staff came up to see Larry and that Larry ended up at St. John's as the SJU staff is a great and special staff.
