And so another season ends. This one didn't finish with a loss in the NCAA Tournament. Or the NIT. It came during a second-round game at the Big East Tournament against Marquette, and it came in an embarassing fashion. You can hold your breath for the CBI or the NWA or the AIG Tournament, but I would advise against it.

I saw this fun tidbit about the series with Marquette -- The Golden Eagles have won nine straight over St. John's, a streak that dates back to 1966.

Although SJU tied a single-season victory total at 16 under Norm Roberts, the loss was the 17th of the year, meaning that the Red Storm have had a losing record in four of Roberts' five seasons. The one winning year was at 16-15.

The loss was the second-worst by St. John's in the Big East Tournament, two points behind an 81-50 loss to Providence in 1987.

The key stat of all key stats -- St. John's set a Big East Tournament record for the fewest points in a half with 10 as the Red Storm trailed, 38-10, at half-time. The previous mark was 14 by Georgetown against Seton Hall in 2001.

It was the fewest points St. John's scored in a half since 10 points against Duke in 2007. Remember that one?

St. John's shot 13.6 percent in the first half, 3-of-22 from the field (0-for-6 on three-pointers), and 62.5 percent in the second half, 15-of-24, to finished at 39.1 percent (18-of-46).

To add to the fun, St. John's had 10 first-half turnovers. SJU finished with 16.

The Red Storm made 18 baskets and finished with three assists.

Paris Horne led SJU with 15 points, going 6-of-15 from the field.

D.J. Kennedy had 11 points.

Despite all the misses, the leading rebounders for St. John's were Sean Evans and Rob Thomas at five apiece. Thomas' 5 rebounds came in just 14 minutes. Marquette had a 41-22 rebounding advantage and scored 20 points off 17 offensive rebounds.

Wesley Matthews scored 20 points to lead Marquette. He outscored SJU, 11-10, in the first half. Lazar Hayward added 17 points.

Marquette made 19-of-23 free throws, St. John's was 7-of-14.

And our last chance for Norm's Normisms: "Give Marquette a lot of credit. They played very well. We played like a tired team. We had some opportunities early, didn't make shots. They capitalized on it and then we hung our heads a little bit when we shouldn't but it's all a maturation process with our guys. We know we've got a lot to learn and to get better, they've got veteran guys, seniors, and they made plays when we didn't.I thought we got some good looks early and we didn't capitalize on it. They took it better."
