Their sound system is primitive. You have to park miles from the arena and then be a billy goat to climb the hills just to get to the arena. But I don't think I have ever heard or read about how terribly uncomfortable the arena is. Their fans are obnoxious, but they complain about everything concerning the team, but not the accommodations. Just saying.......

Maybe 'winning' is the magical ingredient...as to what determines what fans 'complain' about?

I've continued to park in the CA lot even though I graduated my grad program in 2014 so I no longer have the pass. Been to tons of games and never got a ticket. There are always spots if you go early enough.

It’s funny playing at Alumni hall was almost a guaranteed W during the 80 s. I don’t think too many fans complained then.

Agree, just have "St. John's" on the baseline. We are not New York's team simply by saying we are. We have to earn it.

Would you feel the same way if 'Cuse beat us to it?

Syracuse already beat us to it. We didn't like it when they proclaimed it. SJU is physically in nyc, unlike Syracuse or Conn., but we have no more right to claim "We are New York's Team," than DePaul can claim Chicago. Right now Loyola is Chicago's team. They earned it.

Exactly ... but unlike Syracuse, which is 250 miles from New York City, Loyola is actually in Chicago, hence its claim would make sense. However, I'm quite willing to concede that 'Cuse is Upstate New York's team ... but not NYC's team, as implied.

I don't believe Syracuse or UCONN magically becomes New York's team simply by proclamation or even by winning. When Syracuse or Uconn competed for national championships NYC did not become lit up with a sense of excitement or pride. They didn't elicit water cooler chatter or buzz on the subways, buses or streets. We didn't see a plethora of kids wearing their gear or bars tuning in to their games.

St John's, among those who follow college bball, does all of that when we win. My siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews follow st John's, maybe by extension because I went there, but more likely because we are located within city limits and have always gotten media coverage from local tv and newspapers.

We can envy their winning, but they will never be nyc's team because new Yorkers don't identify with either school the way they do with sju. All we have to do is win, and the love comes out.

Very true...UConn may have had their golden years and Cuse is consistently a good program, but you will never hear them discussed even at their peak in the actual NYC area. Their fanbases seem to think this is the case when it's not. I remember a few years back when we were playing Georgetown essentially to get into the NCAA's and on the LIRR seeing more and more SJ fans jumping onboard. When we are relevant and I wear my SJ gear, I'm routinely stopped in the city, on LI, on trains, etc. asking if we won or just discussing the team in general. If that has already happened in some decent but not great years, just imagine if we become a regular top 25 tourney team. SJ is part of the very fabric of the NYC area. It's just different than Cuse and UConn which are in totally different regions. People living in the NYC metro area very likely have never even been close to Storrs or Syracuse in their lifetimes.

Back to the court, supposedly it's not finished yet and the outline will in fact be navy blue and not black.
