QUEENS, N.Y. (July 11, 2018) – St. John’s announced Wednesday that the University has retained an executive search firm, Collegiate Sports Associates, to guide the national search process for its Director of Athletics vacancy. Led by Todd Turner, Founder & President, CSA has launched a confidential search that will identify and recruit a premier candidate with the professional profile required for this important leadership role.

“Collegiate Sports Associates is a well-respected executive search firm with an extensive portfolio of successful leadership placements,” said Joseph Oliva, Esq., Vice President for Administration, Secretary and General Counsel. “Todd Turner, who has nearly four decades of intercollegiate athletic experience, and his team at CSA are committed to seek a diverse pool of athletic administrators who share our Vincentian values and possess the attributes required to lead our athletic department. We are confident in the ability and experience of CSA to conduct a thorough, confidential search for the position of St. John’s Athletic Director.”

Collegiate Sports Associates has an extensive list of current and former clients from high major conferences. Prior to CSA, Turner spent 21 years serving as the Director of Athletics at the University of Connecticut, NC State University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Washington. Turner personally manages and directs each search with the assistance of associates selected from an experienced group of industry professionals.

Would love to see a copy of the AD job description to see who the direct reports are. Chris should answer to the AD imo, otherwise the position remains unempowered. Any competent candidate would not find the previous reporting structure appealing. Time for Joe Oliva & Bobby G to step up. If not, don’t waste your $ on a search firm.

Agreed and, to your point, the best candidates will inquire about the structure and be very discerning before taking the leap.

Expect 'em to go on the cheap with a figurehead. No one worth their salt will want to deal with the powers that be and the poorly structured hierachy.

Oliva needs to go, has way too much power with no checks and balances on him. He is the problem.

Unfortunately, it appears that the trend across the country is that highly paid coaches ($1mm-10mm) don't take very much direction from ADs that are paid much less, are much more prominent, visible, and important to the university. ADs come and go with barely a ripple except in scandals or violations. I don't agree with it, but the days where high visibility coaches were managed by athletic directors are a thing of the past.

In discussions with Anton, he sounded more like Jay Horwitz in managing all the people who want at Chris than an AD.
