I'd like to recommend a "wine club" for those of you who enjoy wine regularly, like variety, and have a sense of adventure. For several years, I've purchased wine over the internet or by mail order from Geerlings and Wade. http://www.geerwade.com
They usually select 2 wines a month as specials and several others are highly recommended in a publication, mailed to your address. I'm certain I've purchased at least 30 or 40 different wines and never had a single disappointment. The prices are at 20% below retail. Most of these come from smaller wineries in Europe or California. They provide relative tasting "scores". Since there is no retailer you miss the joy of wandering in the store aisles, reading labels; but, the prices are truely unbelievable in terms of value. I have no connection to the company, except as a customer, but have recommended it to friends for years. There is usually a merlot special for first time buyers - generally under $9 a bottle, on the internet site. The monthly mailing frequently includes a recipe, a synopsis of the wine region and descriptions of about 10 alternatives. If you like it, you can give Redmen.com a toast on your second bottle.
