most hated :

... from ages 7 to 21 : "Georgetown" - nothing will EVER match the hatred i had for john thompson & his merry band of "thugs" down in D.C. ...

... from age 21 - present : "Yukon" - just the site of calhoun makes me sick .. and if i ever saw that punk khalid el-amin on the street, i would probably have to be re-strained ..

p.s. - Duke Sux!!

Yet again, I have to admit that Scotch is on the right track. My old-time instincts make it a tie with Cuse and G-Town (I have extra reason to hate the Cuse aside from SJU hoops - my alma mater competes with them in lax), but after 10 years of dealing with their ignorant, bus-riding, front-running fans, I hate UConn more than anything.

I have to admit that I don't get the hatred of Duke on this site. All they do is run a clean program that wins a lot of games with class, and they have played some classic games against us. What is there to hate? Plus, theyre not even in our conference. I can only conclude that the Duke hatred is based on dislike of teams that win, and that nobody who voted for Duke as their most hated team roots for the Yankees.

 I hate SU!!!! Orange used to be my favorite color, now I can't stand it. I lived in Syracuse for 5 years and found the fans to be obnoxious. The day after Penn St. blows out SU in football, I would walk down the street wearing my Penn St. shirt, and the verbal garbage that would be thrown at me! Any team that beats their teams sucks, according to the SU fans. What does that say about their fans? Whenever I wore anything that said St. John's or Seton Hall on it, people looked at me like I was crazy. I had a t-shirt for every Big East team. The day after a team beat SU, I'd walk down Salina Street downtown wearing the team's t-shirt. It drove the fans crazy with anger. I did have to wait a long time to wear the Providence t-shirt, but when they beat SU at the Dome, I was wearing it the day after. I surprised they didn't lynch me!

I may be alone but I respect Duke and what it has accomplished. We've beaten them a couple of times in recent years so I'm not sure what exactly the problem is with this quality, non-conference opponent. Frankly, I've been glad they have been on our schedule and hope (though doubt) that they stay. I know Yukon fans hate them too and I'm not sure I understand that one either. I guess when you're the best in the business, people hate you.

For me, I'll stick with a real, long-time rival and reserve most of my fury for the newest sheriff in Hoya land, John Thompson III & Company.

You are not alone Pat, I had a strong dislike for the Dukies in the early 90's when they beat us 3 times in a row, but since then I have grown to respect them. Coach K is a class act (i.e., ordering the Cameron Crazies to lay off EB) and flat out runs a tremendous program.
I have also grown to respect the team from Storrs. How can you not, they are simply the class of the Big East.

Well, if Northshore went there, it can't be that bad
Calm down. I knew that I'd probably be the only one with the Terriers at the top of my list. Have you ever heard anyone(other than a current student) say, "God, I hate Boston U!" I did notice that you failed to include your alma mater as a choice on your list of vitriol . Other than my archenemy attending school there, I'd be hard pressed to find a valid reason for "hating" Boston U.

If I knew that it was a sensitive issue, I would have said Dook or U-Con.
My cousin felt the same.
She went to BU undergrad(loved it)...was accepted at HBS, but opted for Wharton instead(largely due to what she interpreted as condescending and hurtful remarks...and a better comfort level for her). In the end, she was accepted into the same investment banks that she would've applied to from HBS.
On this rare occasion, I apologize Archenemy :) .

1. BC - just because of the hypocracy. How can you file a lawsuit against other schools for leaving the Conference, and then join them later when you get the opportunity.

2. UCLA - don't really have a good reason here. Just always rooted against them. One of my favorite college basketball games of all time was when Princeton beat them in the first round of the tournament. I really disliked their last 2 coaches before Howland. Jim Harrick represents a lot of what is wrong with college basketball and I just thought that Steve Lavin was a lousy coach.

3. Duke- mostly out of jealousy. Its kind of like the Yankees. I really respect coaches like Coach K and Joe Torre, and have really enjoyed watching some of their players over the years (Battier, Wojo, Hurley, G. Hill come to mind; Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams and Paul O'Neil for the Yanks). But there is nothing better than beating them. And its always more exciting with them at the end.

4. Georgetown and Syracuse- lightened a bit recently, especially with Georgetown, due to both of our programs in the midst of down years. I can't stand the 2-3 zone. I hated playing zone when I played ball. I thought it was such a cop-out. As much as I dislike these teams, I tend to root for them in the tournament.

5. The whole big ten (with the exception of Indiana during Bobby Knight's tenure) - Just ugly, ugly basketball.

I can't stand any of the other Big East schools. It boggles my mind when people root for the conference teams during the tourney because it "looks good" for the conference. I want them all to lose because I just don't want to hear any talk from their fans and I want them all to suffer. I voted for BC though, nothing but sellouts. That's all I'll say because I'll probably get kicked off of the forum for venting my thoughts on that school.

Most hated team is Gonzaga...i hate Gonzaga because Vitale rides them almost as hard as Duke all year and they play like 3 top 50 teams a year and rack up a good record vs inferior comp.,
2. the Red Sux who will find a way to not win the world series this yr come a close second
3. Virginia Tech( never belonged in the BigEast in the first plACE and was always the worst trip)
4 NE Patriots
5 Manhattan College
6 Marlins
7. Nets
8 Fakers or as people in LA know them the Lakers

My hatred for Duke has nothing to do with the team or staff, it's with the fans. I invite you to visit the south and listen to a guy with three teeth that can't spell Duke, let alone ever imagine attending Duke, bragging about the team, it's just infuriating. Most of the ACC fans think everyone else is crap, like their **** don't stink. I have the utmost respect for coach Cal and his team's(with the exception of Battier).

the Miami Dolphins (that's a BIG one)

To be honest I didn't grow to hate Shaq until it was apparent how bad he was for the NBA. I thought the twin towers of LSU were great both games they managed to play together. But seriously I know Dale Brown was probably a very bad man but I was a big LSU fan as a kid. His teams were always fun to watch and he was a great interview.

I don't care for UConn,s fans. As a group, they embarass because they don't understand the game well. Success came early for a great team but the I.Q.'s are like Syracuse fans in the 70's and 80's. SU guys are now actually fun to talk to at games. UConn fans will be in 5-10 years. Who do I hate?.... St. Bona for whacking us in MSG by 36 and leaving the starters in with a minute to go........CLASSLESS. Real fans have a very long memory;that happened about 40 years ago. Since the Yankees, Cowboys, and St. John's are my favorite in that order, I also should have included the Red Sox, Mets, Diamondbacks, Marlins, Giants (football), Redskins, and Eagles. Actually Georgetown was the BE team that I hated the most until I moved to Syracuse. I found the "Cuse fans to such irritating braggarts, that I'd root for the Hoyas everytime they played SU. I never thought I'd do that. That gives you an idea how bad SU fans are.
