I don't blame him. Who would want to play for San Francisco?
So he is doing the samething as Peyton. Good for him.

Big mistake in my opinion, he has nothing else to prove and could get injured and only the signing bonus I hear is insurable.
Well the one good thing is that he will graduate, if he hasn't already.

I can never fault a kid for staying in school. If it was me though and that kind of signing bonus I would be out of school quicker than a jarvis juco recruit.

Some say it's always good to stay in school, but I disagree especially in a physical sport like football. IF he goes pro and gets hurt his rookie year and can never play again he still has his guaranteed signing bonus, and can always go back to school, college is going nowhere. Now if he goes back and gets hurt and can never play again he'll never have the chance to play in the NFL.
That is what so many people don't understand, college isn't going anywhere you can always get your degree if that's something you want to do. You only have a small window to be a professional athlete, and if your guaranteed millions why pass it up and risk something bad happening.
I do understand Leinart loves USC and the possibility of winning back to back Heisman's and even more importantly 3 straight national champioships had to be hard to leave.

I too can't fault a kid for staying in school. It is not only the money, it is the great thing about college sports, youth, comraderie and everything that goes with it. If he wants to, he can do like Tim Duncan did and take out an insurance policy for this season so that if he does get injured, he still makes a million or two. I'm sure plenty of insurance companies willing to take that bet with this kid.

They did said he talked to some NFL quarterbacks, if so he must have talk to Eli Manning!! Yes there are pros and cons to this discussion but it feels good to hear that the kid not leaving for the money but staying for the love of the sport. this is what some football players missing today. Maybe J-E-T-S John whats his name should stay in school?(just a jets punchline), but lets see how this turn out for the trogan man Matt. It's clear to see who's going to win the national championship next year!!!

I think the money had something to do with it. He would be the 3rd QB drafted next year behind Smith (Utah) and Rodgers (Cal). Think of the differents in say Eli Manning Money and Big Ben Money.

Maybe I'm wrong, but, my understanding of the insurance policy is that it only covers the athlete if he/she is injured to the extent that he/she cannot compete again. However, a very serious injury that is not considered career threatening but could greatly affect someone's ability to play and, therefore, his/her draft status, is not covered.
While I applaud his decision to stay in school, he's really rolling the dice

He can become the 2nd player to win the Heisman twice as well as being a part of the first team to win 3 straight National Championships.

I'm sorry, but he would have been number 1 if he came out this year. The kid must of wanted to come back to college cause maybe he loves it. Basically the whole offense is coming back for USC.

Personally, I don't understand his decision. I do think that 99.9% of kids should stay in school but he is the prime example of someone who should come out. He has nothing else to accomplish in college sports. Actually you could say that he is a man playing with boys. Why does he feel the need to comeback next year just to throw 6 touchdown passes against Washionton state. He should go onto his next athletic challenge playing against the big boys in the NFL.

My opinion, but no way either one of those QB's go before Leinart in the draft. I don't think this had to do with money, if it did, no way he's in school. I wouldn't have done the same, but its nice to see.

Very true. And money aside, he may never be able to leave his mark on the NFL game in the way he is about to do at USC

And I think the possibility of having to play in San Francisco also weighed heavily on his decision to return to Southern Cal.
Leinhart loves college. It's not all about the money to everyone. I can understand why the kid left. This is a strong QB class, there was no guarantee that he would be one of the top 3 picks He will walso get the chance to come back and try to do some phenominal things (ie. 3rd champion ship, 2nd Hesiman, etc.)

Well I guess that you only get to experience college life once and that the NFL will always be there. Matt seems like a good kid I wish him the best.

Especially after Carroll said no to San Fran
Leinart was the number 1 pick. That tells you this wasn't about the money. Forget the other QB's. Leinart was the guy, everyone else falls behind him. Even if the top team in the draft didn't need a QB, they would have traded out because of Leinarts value to someone else
