What do all of those NY Law Schools have in common? 44 years ago I couldn't get into any of them! LOL Forced me to go to the U Of Dayton School of Law and I was able to pass the NY bar on the first try when if I remember correctly the passing rate was around 50-60% (and that is really all that matters). Anywho my school has a much better basketball program than any of the others. Let's go Flyers! :)

To my recollection at one point SJU had the highest pass rate of the NY Bar than any school in the country. Friends who went to SJU law said that at Harvard, you discuss merits of the law, but at SJU they would have none of that - you learned the law and that's it.

Can anyone acknowledge that to be true?

Believe you are correct as to the time frame when I went to law school. If I remember correctly SJU had over a 90% passing rate. I recall interning one summer during law school and a Harvard grad was preparing to take the bar exam for the 4th time and if he failed again he would lose his job.
PS and at the time I attended UD the law school was only 4 years old and yet UD had the highest pass rate in Ohio of the some 11-13 or so law schools. I really lucked out in my LS choice.

Correct you are Beast, it does not mean it was the best law school in the State but rather had it had the highest success rate at the Bar Exams.

Very true. Then again, if you want to become a lawyer, and not just get a law degree, maybe it was the best. :)

In 1978 SJU Law had the highest pass rate higher than NYU, Columbia, and Fordham, and back then there were not these rankings, but generally, SJU was a notch below Fordham, now not so much.

We were criticized for "teaching" to the Bar exam by those better schools.

Funny story: my friend who went to SJU and is a litigator in NJ, was in Chambers and this bow-tie wearing lawyer from NY and Harvard kept on saying things like "when I was at Harvard", blah blah blah ...the Judge stopped him and said "you're not at Harvard anymore" and "if you're smart you'll settle this case cause Mr. Feczko from St. John's will clean your clock".

SJU at least back then flunked a lot of students out, gave zero or 1% A's to anyone and lots of homework. We had a very credentialed student body from people who went to great colleges but lived in the tri state area and wanted to go to school close to home for convenience or to save money. Many could have gotten into better law schools but chose SJU.
