"Dunn has two years of eligibility remaining, and a unique situation. Dunn transferred from St. Francis Brooklyn to Cleveland State before last season, sitting out; Cleveland State fired their head coach, Dennis Felton, late this summer (July).

This spring, the NCAA explicitly stated that players whose coaches leave before fall classes start, but after enrolling in summer session can play immediately without a waiver."

That would be interesting but I don't think the rule change was meant for this situation. It was meant to address something that happened at Ohio St/NC St in 2017 involving Thad Matta and Braxton Beverly. Bevery signed and enrolled at Ohio St in May of 2017. Matta was not let go until June. That is unusual. So Beverly decided to transfer to NC St. Since he already enrolled at OSU rule says he has to sit a year. He filed a waiver and was denied twice before a public outcry ultimately got him his waiver. Remember most incoming freshmen would find out BEFORE they ever enroll if the coach is fired. Because most coaching changes are in March and April before summer enrollment. Thus kids can decide then to get out of their NLI. So there is no risk to enrolling and having to formerly transfer.

With Dunn he transferred over a year ago and sat a year at Cleveland St. But yes he can make the argument that because of a coaching change BEFORE he ever got to play that he should be allowed to transfer and play immediately. So he could stretch that rule but this would probably be more commonplace than Beverly since kids transfer all the time sitting out a year and you can see coaching changes happening after that happens. Eli Wright could argue the same thing. Transferred to SJU, sat a year, coach is gone, transfers again before playing etc.

The other key provision is that the player must have enrolled in summer classes, proving they intended to stay if not for the late coaching change. Hopefully Dunn did.

That said, I get the sense our staff picked-up Dunn to play this year and likely vetted his chances for the waiver.

Donnie Tillman just got a waiver after transferring from Utah to UNLV.

This is pretty straightforward. His mom is sick and he is from Nevada.

DePaul guard Charlie Moore received a waiver to play immediately. He is from Chicago.

Rothstein:,This is significant Big East news.

Moore gives DePaul a legitimate point guard to go with big man Paul Reed and Top-50 freshman Romeo Weems.

Isn't this the kid who played with Lovett at one of Lovett's 3,425 high schools?

Yes. Between Lovett's weird stint here and Moore's multiple colleges it feels like he has been in college for 20+ years

Moore will be a steady hand for Depaul this year at point - big win for them. He had an excellent freshman year for Cal & played 13 mpg for Kansas last year on a team loaded at the guard position.

Moore, a two time transfer coming home and getting immediate eligibility would seem to be good news for Dunn. Not identical but similar.

DePaul has a nice top three of Moore, Reed and Weems. Plus, they return an experienced junior PG in Devin Gage. The balance of the roster is nearly all 3-Star.

I don't perceive Dave Leitao has a particularly strong coach, but it's hard to argue he hasn't done a nice job here.

I’d take their top three last year over this year. Cain and Struss were tough.
