Everyone knows I'm a huge Justin fan, but frankly if he has any hope of playing in the NBA it will not be as a point guard, but as a swiss army knife guy on offense and a great defender who can defend 3 or 4 positions. Also would need to become a decent percentage shooter of wide open threes. As many here have said, he'd fit perfectly in MA's system and would love to have him back, but it appears he's decided he'd like to give it his best shot at professional ball now, so best of luck to him.

Obviously if you're Zion it's understandable but if you're more likely headed the overseas route to get any meaningful playing time instead of the NBA, it's still odd IMO. You get a free BA and possibly MA (that most of us common guys are spending a luxury car payment on every month at a minimum) at a nice private school saving you hundreds of thousands and will always be there for you if basketball doesn't work out. You're also the big man on campus and almost any girl(s) will want to be your groupie, you get treated like royalty, stopped for pictures, asked for autographs, the fans love you, national TV, great exposure, etc. Why not enjoy all of that all 4 years? Not talking lottery picks in the NBA...I'm talking guys who only have real options overseas. You simply will not get the fans, the support, the fame, the hype, or exposure overseas for the most part. Even if you make the G League, how many guys swim around there and never really make it out? Even there you don't get the exposure or hype. Who is watching a G League game vs. an NCAA Tourney game or a Big East Tourney game? At the end of the day it's up to the player of course...I just think it's criminal how so many players are acting as if college is not a good enough deal for them.

Who is watching the G League? You don't get the exposure or hype? You do know that these teams are all affiliated with NBA teams, Westchester Knicks (Knicks), Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets), etc. Not that I am a proponent necessarily of leaving college for the G League but you do get even more exposure to the NBA than you do playing in college.

Yes! And you get a chance to play in front of dozens of fans every single game day! How many Knick fans have ever been to a Westchester Knicks game? How many fans without guessing would even know where the Westchester Knicks play for certain?

Self determination is one of the greatest of all American freedoms. No one is saying we should be happy for a kid's choice, but if we can't discuss how well they played for us, cannot question a decision to stay or leave for a perceived better opportunity, then the only thing left is to defame the coaches. I say we give them all trophies even before the season, and be done with it.

Beast - when you ask where the Westchester Knicks play, do you mean Westchester or White Plains?

That's how insignificant g league is. I don't know if that's a trick question.

The Westchester KNICKS are the Knicks minor league team run and staffed by Knick personnel. The players there have all the NBA exposure you can get as some are promoted to the Knicks. Why the hell are you guys so hung up on how many fannies there are in the seats? How many St. John's players get promoted to the Knicks during the season? I'll hang up and listen. On second thought please don't respond because it will just make me wish I could smack some sense into you.;) :)

Is Simon still eligible to return to SJU?

Provided his academics are in order (and there is no reason to think they are not), he can matriculate for the Fall semester and be eligible. If he has received any financial assistance from his agent (including travel expenses) he would need to pay that back.

My guess is if he wants to come back, there are no insurmountable barriers. However, I don't believe the Simon camp sees this as his best option.

Exactly! Here's a link: gleague.nba.com/news/nba-g-league-announ...es-2018-2019-season/ . 7k a month, plus bonuses for any call-ups. Many on here have gone to college to pursue careers in finance, law, medicine, pharma, etc. etc...these guys come to school to pursue a career AKA make a living, in basketball. They can always come back and receive their degrees, a la Hatten. None of these kids should be expected to shelf their dream or ability to earn a living because we want them playing on our college hoops team.
