Sorry but we get plenty top 100 kids. We may not get an abundance of top 25 kids but we clearly get our fair share of top 100 kids. Only SJU coaches who did not get their fair share of top
100 kids were Mullin and Norm. Jarvis, Fran, Mahoney and Lavin all got them and top 25 too.

I’ve always said that landing in the range of too 75-150 is the real sweet spot recruiting-wise. After that, you have to look at top jucos, rising-star type players and grad transfers. There are a lot of great kids that bloom late toward spring, but it puts a school behind the 8-ball waiting to land all their talent at that point. If we target a mix, we will be fine. I like Demeo’s juco pedigree because he knows where to find talent there. We will land our share, I get s gut feeling about it. Anderson will get more exposure, recruiting-wise in the basketball-centric Big East. It’s gonna be a bit of a boon for him outside of the SEC I think. Just a guess of course but i think access will be better than it was prior being in the northeast, if the staff continues to hit the recruiting trail hard like they are doing.

So far, from what I have seen and heard Coach Anderson seems like a “ham and egg” type of Coach. By that, I mean he is putting is nose down and working to recruit good kids. Not necessarily 4 and 5 star guys but guys who will buy in on what he wants the team to be. I don’t think he is worried by his lack of ties to NY recruiting because he has brought in Assistants who do and he sounds like a man who will and is confident in his ability to build relationships here. I think, given time, he will be accepted because I believe he is a good, honest man. At least that’s what Everything I have read indicates.

Until proven otherwise I am happy he is the Coach. Not sure (do any of us really know?) how any of this works out but early signs look good to me. Can’t wait for year one.

. Disagree Redmen North . I guess it depends on how you want to define fair share ? As for St John’s , Mullin did get Ponds from HS , and through the transfer route Simon and Heron but , my point was not to make this another Mullin debate but , rather just the number of Top 100’s going to the Big State Universities vs the BE or other , Conferences . These Schools regularly get the Lottery Picks , the one and doners , the ones followed since 6 th Grade , etc . Your point about Past Coaches getting top 100 players was correct but , the Mahoney ‘s Fraschilla, Jarvis all got them from NY or close by . When the Metro area produced that level of talent , which for the most part it isn’t . Lavin had that 1 great recruiting class but , the kids , other than Harkless were from other parts of the Country . Harrison Texas, Pointer -Detroit , Greene-Chicago , Branch -Texas . It seems that every once in a while , a BE School will get a top 100 kid . Maybe 1 every 3-4 years , if they are lucky . Again , Nova is in a different stratosphere right now . Be Assured Hurley will get more top kids than the rest of us , not because he is a better Coach but , because UCONN will open the Wallett. That’s all I am saying . Just my opinion .

For the most part , the League’s Teams do well without getting very many , if at all , Top 100 Players . Villanova being the exception while winning 2 Recent NCAA championship . With their last one resulting in 4 players in the NBA . But , even the Cats strike out with the top 100 kid, i.e. Quinerly . This Year only 1 BE Player was drafted , Paschall in the second round . No Ponds, no Phil Booth , and I am uncertain if Govan got drafted ? Point being most of the 1 and Dones , and the rest of the top 100 players go to the large State Universities., that play Football and generates big revenue . While UConn failed at football , it is a Financially rich State school that can throw unlimited resources at their BB program . And , they will do so . And., again challenge for BE Titles nearly every Year . It’s a shame the money was too much for the BE to walk from ... So , get ready for their arrogant and nasty Fans , their admitting great players but , students who wouldn’t qualify for BE admittance academically and all that goes with it . Like what they did during the Calhoun years . The current group of BE schools have , for the most part , good Coaches who build good Teams but , rarely great ones . It the way it is . Unless , a another Nova emerges .Coach Anderson will fit nicely into that Group with Cooley, Willard, Wojo, Ewing , etc

Sly I’m curious ( I don’t know their endowment ) and obviously state vs private are too different animals but are you saying UConn is a financially rich school or rich state ?

I did a post on this several months ago, but the Big East gets just as many top 100 recruits as the average P6 conference.

Top 100 players 2019 rankings via 247 Composite:
#15 Nova
#16 Nova
#55 Nova
#60 DePaul
#63 UConn
#64 Providence
#68 Nova
#72 Marquette
#87 Xavier
#89 UConn
#94 Butler
#100 UConn

That's 12/100 spots. 7/11 Big East teams got a top 100 recruit this year. Doing some math:

There are 76 Power 6 teams. Add another ~14 to account for major recruiting powers from other conferences like Memphis, Gonzaga, Cincy, etc... and we're up to 90 power teams.

The Big East's 11 members make up 12% of all power teams (11/90) and recruited 12% of the top 100 recruits (12/100).

In other words, the Big East is right there with the rest of the power conferences. No difference whatsoever.

Lavin got a lot of top 100 recruits. Mullin got a lot during his first couple years. CMA will need to get a few, too.

Anderson is a coach. Plain and simple.
Our last two 'coaches' weren't coaches. One was a former legend who played the game at the highest level in hopes of it translating to the sidelines. The other was a wordsman who can charm the pants off anyone and brought in high level talent albeit with question marks.

If you want to say Norm was last true coach you can. Some will some won't. However he was a first time coach and cleaning up a true disaster. We can keep going further back and debating who was the last true SJU basketball coach. Bottom line is we have a true basketball coach for the first time in 10 years. That should cure many ills we had over the last decade.
