Folks who were at the game, how'd Coach look in timeouts, etc? It seemed like he had a chair designated for players who just came out so that he could talk with them. Is that accurate? Was he loud? Did he interact with refs at all?

CMA was excellent in the time outs; he did not waste time having a "group think" with the other coaches for half of the T/O nor did that waste time setting up "little chairs" away from the stands. He was very focused with the players and while I could not hear what he was saying, he looked like he was blunt about what was going on that he did not like on the court. He also shows plays that he diagrammed on the board that coaches use to show where he expected individuals to be. He was not the players "friend" but he was their Coach and demonstrated who was in charge and the players reacted well.

With regards to the point on the refs, I get the impression that this coach knows how to interact with college refs - before and after the tip off. Maybe we get some good calls this season.

He made huge strides and likely one of those guys that will continue to get better under Anderson. Earlington, Caraher etc all look solid. Coming along and serviceable. ...

MCNPA, I too was impressed with what I saw. I Iove his athleticism, his energy, his work ethic, and his much-needed length, but we have to recognize that his performance -- however improved it was over last year's efforts -- came against a D2 Queens College team (one more undersized than ours), and that we have to see how he does against the big boys before getting too confident about his role on this team. Another case of time will tell.

Small sample, substandard opponent, but Roberts seems to have good hands, catches in traffic and seems to have good instincts cutting to hoop. Heron and he showed some good chemistry on a few pick and rolls.I suspect he will fare well under MA’s tutelage. Defensively he may get muscled down low by Watson types, but I think he could be a good help defender.

He’s by no means a finished product, but I just see some good signs that can translate to bigger play. Didn’t he have a double double vs Temple in scrimmage too? He’s gonna have good hands because he was a football wide receiver. I’m more impressed with some of his early instincts. I’d still like to see him play at a faster speed because I think he’s capable. Hes got a big upside if he starts to figure out what he’s capable of doing out there.

Nobody wants to hear it but CMA doesn’t care how much we win by last night.

It’s an exhibition game and he’s trying things out.

No choice to be patient and hope that Anderson lands a significant talent for the last spot in 2020 class and hopefully has a huge 21’ class.

I think Anderson can win w/o a huge recruiting class or even one big recruit. Since Louie left program constantly waiting on one big recruit or class. Finally have a coach that actually has a system and can recruit to fit that system. Going to take a few years so people won't be happy of course. If given ample time I think Anderson can build something sustainable though. Just my opinion.

Winning is one thing; winning big -- regularly competing for a BE title -- is something else. Aside from good coaching (which it looks like we have), it requires talent and depth.

Yeah that won't happen. Never really has except for couple outlier years in program history.
Winning 20 every year and competing for tourney bid every year. That should be our goal.
We Are St. John's!

I'm with you on that, but if Villanova can rise to an elite level and Seton Hall can be a preseason favorite to win the BE, there's no excuse for our not being able to do the same. Why settle for less?

Don't waste your time if you don't wanna hear someone speak in absolutes and routinely uses fallacies as their backing points.

Still ridiculous. Nice At least you are consistent
25 years we make tourney every 5 years but we can be Nova;)
Though better than us not sure how Seton Hall was mentioned but that would be a nice place to be that might be attainable.

LJ was fantastic. Heron shot extremely well, still put his head down a few too many times for my liking but we need him to score so I’ll probably have to accept it.

The other guys:
Roberts: The added muscle makes a big difference. He looks like Jakarr out there. The highlight was the one dribble and dunk from a few feet outside the 3 point line. Also had a really surprising and impressive pass to Caraher underneath who fumbled it.

Earlington: He never stops and always is trying to make a play. There will be some downside to that but I think we need it. Made a few really great passes from the middle/high post. Two kick outs for 3s and a high-low to Sears. Not a rim protector in the least so good to see him take a charge.

Williams: Didn’t make any highlight plays but I though he looked solid. Couple nice and simple passes plus one great drive and kick out to Earlington who missed the shot. Really big size for a guard.

Champaigne: May have showed the least but I like what’s there. First play of the game caught a bullet pass from Heron and finished right away. Had a great bounce pass from high-low to Roberts and overall he seems comfortable with the ball. On D he went straight up on more than a couple instances. Will need to be physical to succeed at the 4.

Caraher: Didn’t light it up but important to remember he routinely beat up on better competition than this 2 years ago. Was great to see him move around, might not be the quickest but I thought he really got up and down well. Also saw him busting his ass on a few boxouts and made a couple nice passes including a full court outlet to LJ and a cross court skip to Heron that stood out.

Rutherford: Would be a really good backup IMO. Made quick decisions with the ball and his D and rebounding should be a +. Can he hit an open catch and shoot 3 from time to time?

Sears: Maybe I’m going overboard but I loved what I saw out of Sears. In the first half stretch he went hard on the O glass and got us some extra possessions. On D he showed extremely well on high ball screens and got his hands on the ball a few times. Glad to have him the next 2 years.

Obviously we could really use the talent (scoring!) boost that Dunn and Steere would give both the BC and FC but I like the group as a whole. They're all ball movers.
