If Ponds plays like he did the 1st half of last season, he has a shot at being an NBA player. If he plays the selfish ball that resulted in low percentage shots, failure to trust his teammates, and overall playing me first, get mine ball, he will have a career playing overseas.

It is becoming painfully evident that another year of college, especially under CMA , better conditioning, better diet, a more disciplined style of play , would really have benefitted Ponds. This week the Raptors had 4 players out with injuries , including Lowry, but yet he has not been called up.
I shudder to think of the team that could have been had Ponds returned and we would start 3 of the top 10 players in the BE.

We had those three players and I am not sure it worked out so well as a team. Team did a lot of standing around waiting for Ponds to make a play. No need to relive the past. Wish him luck.

It's an interesting hypothetical. CMA would insist Ponds adjust, but he would have to break three years of bad habits. Overall, I am sure it would have been a positive.

That said, Ponds had to make his decision about 3 weeks before CMA was hired. So, at the time, it was unclear what he would be coming back to.

I think Ponds was leaving regardless of who our coach was.

You really think so? You really think that 2 nba hall of famers, plus a lead assistant who is now an assistant with the Lakers, never spoke to Ponds about how he had to play to get the attention of the nba? I know first hand that he was.

I know first hand that when Ponds attended the nba camps before last season that Mullin knew he wasn't ready for the nba. Mullin advised and encouraged ponds to go to those camps, and when he came back Chris would go over those reports and work on whatever ponds needed to play into the 1st round.

The answer was pretty simple. Low turnovers, better shooting percentage, more assists, and making his teammates better leading to wins. Early on, it appeared Ponds was doing all of that.

As the season dragged on, ponds reverted to the not ready for prime time player. Long three point attempts with plenty of time on the clock, drives to the hoop 1 on 3, and me first ball.

It's hard to bench your best player when you go 5 deep, but Mullin seemed not to be all over ponds during timeouts. Today's players probably wouldn't listen or respond in a positive manner. But ponds is responsible for ponds, and to suggest CMA would get through where Mullin, Richmond, and GSJ couldn't is a little over the top.
