Beats the beatings we took under Mullin. Give the payers credit they try hard and don’t give up
Hope they put up a good fight in the remaining games and gives us a surprise in the BE tournament

And that's the point. We had way too many games under Mullin which we showed up uninspired and unprepared and got absolutely blown out. That has not happened at all under CMA. And Mullin had way more talent.

Blame Mike A if you want, but if LJ just hits one of the open looks he has in the final minutes, Champ makes one of the 3 consecutive putbacks he got around the rim. Earlington makes the wide open shot from the corner that he had just hit a couple minutes prior, Dunn makes an 8 footer from the baseline, or Dunn hit the pull up wide open 3 in transition late, St. John’s probably wins the game.

I didn’t see a fault last night tactically. I saw guys miss shots when it was time to put the game away. It happens

Exactly.

Caraher, Dunn, Earlington, LJ all missed wide open 3's in the last few minutes that were good shot choices but didn't go down. It happens, especially when you aren't a good shooting team to begin with.

Carraher? I must have missed that one

Yeah, thought his was a 3 but he might have been inside the line since the box score doesn't list him taking any 3's.

Still, the point was that a bunch of guys missed a bunch of wide open looks down the stretch. It wasn't just one guy.

Would rather have players take good shots within the flow of the offense even if they miss them, than have Dunn and/or Figueroa play hero ball and miss ridiculously well defended poor shots. End of game situations should have the ball in the hands of our best facilitators who can penetrate and dish to an open teammate for an uncontested shot. Yes, sometimes the facilitator should take the ball to the basket himself, but only if the defense provides him a decent chance of making the shot.

I would like to see us recruit 4 and 5 star players as much as the next fan, but end of game situations do not require someone to take over the game. If I wanted to see that crap I would watch the NBA which I don't. There are 5 teammates on the court and I would rather see any one of them take an uncontested shot than have someone play hero ball. See Rutherford wide open in corner when Figueroa threw up his prayer against Xavier.

Agree, think serveral players should look to transfer only because think they would do better with a div 2 or 3 school and we could retool with more skilled players that are suited for the BE thereby moving the program forward
Coach has some decision to make after the season

Agree, but his prior accomplishments doesn’t give him a pass .He is sticking with 40mins of hell so far results not good with the leads he had he could have changed to adjust and take the air out of the ball perhaps we win or maybe he knows his players and he felt he did not have the ball handlers to change
But it has given fans 40mins of hell
I am not going against him now,but next yet if it’s going the same way it’s open season on coach and staff

A lot has been made of the 1-13 shooting to end the X game . It’s certainly a problem but , we also saw X go on a 8-0 run to win the game . The late game defensive collapse was just as much a factor . It was a tired , small group of players down the stretch that were in the Court . Why Roberts wasn’t on the Court on the Defensive end is a legit question . He played 11 minutes and was fresh . And , he has shot blocking skills . We have worn down dramatically in the last 5 minutes of more than a few games . Late game strategy often dictates the outcome of games . Having fresh and the right players on the Court is a important Coaching responsibility . Opponent Coaches in the BE are proven winners , exception Leitao. They know how to manage a game .

Until Roberts can shoot better than 35% from the foul line he won't be on the floor in the last 5 minutes of a close game or one where we are in the lead.

I know he had a big game on Monday night, especially in the first half, but there's a reason Rutherford was wide open in the corner at the end of the game, and it wasn't because of a defensive breakdown, if you know what I mean.

We don't have anyone who can both penetrate and dish effectively, so I think you're asking for something that isn't there, right now.

SJU has blown so many games in the last 5 minutes the staff has to look into the cause. Is it as SLYFOXX posts SJU players are tired or are a group of bad shooters losing some efficiency because of crunch time.
I'm leaning toward the latter because almost all big east teams while they don't press like SJU rotate less players than SJU and always seem fresh at the end of games. One of the reasons for this is the use of replay. An announcer last Sat said the last minute of games is taking six minutes clock time this year and the NCAA is concerned.
Whatever the reason something has to tried strategy wise to correct the problem. I would guess SJU shoots around 15 per cent from the floor in the last 5 minutes. Of course a couple of talented shooters next year could help solve the problem.
