I love reading articles like these. This particular article is much more about the dominance of CCNY and very little about the scandal.

It's amazing when you think just how much African American players transformed basketball just a few years later.

I've been reading a great series of articles on the best baseball players ever. I may post some here. One of the comments in a piece on Satchel Paige was that the very best players in MLB knew that in the Negro leagues there were players among the best who ever lived. They did compete against each other in exhibitions, and the matchups were legendary and grew gigantic crowds.

I think 1960's era State Senator Joe Galiber (sic) was also on that CCNY team.

Always find it interesting to reflect on this story. My wife works at City College, and they actually have some photos up in the gym of this era and I believe even the championship team. So the school hasn't totally erased the memory. It's mind numbing to even think about the fact of how far they've fallen. The article also references LIU and Fordham at one point being basketball powers. Thinking of any of these three schools as basketball powers seems unfathomable today.
