Remember reading in the paper that it was Slomkowski from Fairport NY. The article made sure we knew Fairport was near Syracuse.

I was there, and when that whistle blew it seemed as though time stood still until the call was made. With only 5 seconds from the time Rencher missed the front end of a 1 and 1, can still see Marty Headd receiving an outlet pass and rifling the ball ahead to a streaking Louis Orr. Like all fans was irate when the call was made, but to me, it was clear that Carter did the only thing he could do, which was submarine Orr late, giving him no choice but to make contact. To me at least, Carter blocked him, and today might have been called for a borderline flagrant foul because a submarine, intentional or not, can really cause a serious injury.

I was there too Beast and you described it perfectly. Time stood still. And then it was shattered. My father and I went over the game and call all the way home to Miller Place. And we still talk about it to this day.

If you recall just about everyone in front of us lost that week, and when cuse called timeout to freeze rencher, the raucous crowd nearly blew the roof off with a "we're number 1" chant.

After the orr layup it sounded like a morgue.

We were #5 going into the game, correct? Also remember that being the first appearance of the "We Are St. John's" red placards. Or was that the Louisville game on National TV?

I'm not certain when the "we are st. John's" placards surfaced but i do know from where. A small group of BEP brothers and booster club guys took a road trip to Notre Dame where fans chanted "We are..", and they brought it back with them, and it's Bern here since.

My recollection was #5, but someone here said #7. Guessing difference in 2 polls.

I don't recall the We are chant at the Syracuse game at all.

I was at both those games and seem to remember the placards being given out for the Louisville game, which was the national game.

Darrell Griffith killed us - Sunday afternoon maybe at Alumni Hall.

So guys, was it a submarine on Carter's part, or a charge by Orr? I say submarine, no doubt. Your opinions?
